This is truly an offering created by LOVE, from my grieving heart to yours. My writing is a tool that helps me remember, record and sometimes share the precious memories of my past with others.Īnd that’s what inspired me to create this offering for you. Almost four years have passed and I still have moments where I wonder if that life was even real or if I somehow imagined the whole thing. Life is immortalised inside of them whether or not they’re remembered. I know firsthand how afraid you might be of forgetting. But you don’t exist to make memories you exist to make moments. The effects of the alcohol and camaraderie with his pals cause his emotions to bubble up as he remembers their times together. The word memory applies to both the individual facts and experiences you remember as well as the brain's ability to contain it all. Your brain's memory helps you recall lots of memories like multiplication tables and bad dates. In the darkest moments of my grief, being able to go back and read through these memories helps me anchor into the love that we still share and reminds me that that life really did exist. I could never have imagined how precious these pieces of writing would become once he was no longer here. In the first year of our relationship, I kept a journal where I wrote about the transformative experience of opening myself to love, the first time we said the words “I love you” and other intimate moments that I didn’t want to forget. From the day we met and until his very last days, we wrote letters to one another, outlining the details of our shared life and the depth of our love.
